Cyber Space Fellowship Applications, Academic Year 2023-2024

0

International Students: Open Call for Fellowship Applications, the Academic Year 2023-2024. The scholarship enables participation in Harvard University-taught Fellowship-level programs in the field of cyberspace. The scholarship application deadline is January 9, 2023.

At Harvard University, there is a research institution called the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society that specializes in the study of cyberspace. The center was started at Harvard Law School and has historically concentrated on legal matters relating to the internet.

The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society is currently accepting fellowship applications for the academic year 2023–2024 through their open call. It is a partially funded fellowship and a fantastic chance for academics who are eager to spend 2023–2024 living in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a part of the Center’s active research and practice community and who want to engage in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary, and cross-sectoral exploration of the most crucial issues relating to the Internet. A select few components are offered in this fellowship program. They aim to keep our fellowship viable for participants while retaining the variety of possibilities and unique environment that fellows have both benefited from and strived to create. They do this by drawing on experience engaging fellows over the last 20 years.

Scholarship Benefits:

Stipend: Those who apply for financing from the Berkman Klein Center and those who apply backed by external money are the two ways that applicants might be selected for the fellowship program through the open call.

Funding for the Berkman Klein Center: The Center only has a small budget to sustain fellows. Those selected through the open call for applications as BKC-funded fellows are eligible to receive stipends of $75,000. It is guaranteed that the first half of the stipend will last for the first half of the year. To exchange comments, assess engagement, and check on research progress, we will hold a mid-year review with fellows. If scholars are on track, at this point we will clear the way for financing for the second half of the year. We plan to provide three fully sponsored fellowships in 2023-2024.

External funding: These applicants provide their own financial assistance in the form of a grant, scholarship, sabbatical, or another similar arrangement. In addition to this money, the Berkman Klein Center will provide a $10,000 stipend that can be utilized for the housing, travel, and research costs. We plan to provide at least three externally supported fellowships in 2023–2024.

Applicants may opt to be considered under both funding pathways.

Please be aware that fellowships obtained through this open call are not considered to constitute employment, and fellows will not be eligible for severance compensation or layoff benefits once their fellowships are complete.

One’s immigration status must permit the receiving of a fellowship stipend if they are based in the US but are neither US citizens nor Lawful Permanent Residents (“green card” holders).

The tax reporting of fellows’ stipends is their responsibility.

You may read more about the fellowship stipends provided by Harvard University here.
