Scholarship Benefits:
The program provides financial support for the applicant’s salary while on secondment. However, the employing organization is responsible for paying the national insurance and pension contributions. The program also offers a research expenses fund of up to £4,000 per year, which may be used to provide summer studentships. These studentships allow students to work on industrially relevant research projects under the award holder’s guidance and in partnership with the host organization. At the end of their projects, students are invited to present their findings at the annual Industry Fellows Networking event hosted by the Royal Society.
The Royal Society can provide additional financial assistance to research fellows to cover care costs when attending conferences, collaborative research visits, or invited talks that are directly related to their fellowship. Such requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Awards can last for up to two years full-time, or up to four years pro-rata, meaning that a distinction could be held part-time for up to four years (e.g. 50% part-time) to allow fellows to maintain links with their employing institution more conveniently.
