The Gustafsson & Skrondal Visiting Scholarship 2023 is now open for international students. The scholarship is available for students pursuing Ph.D.-level programs in all subjects taught at the University of Oslo. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is scheduled for the end of July 2023.

The University of Oslo’s Centre for Educational Measurement (CEMO) is offering a visiting scholar program for young researchers from Norway and other countries. The goal of the program is to promote collaboration and contribute to the research community at CEMO and the University of Oslo. Scholars who are selected for the program are expected to embody the principles of sound scientific inquiry and the intellectual vibrancy of the scholarship’s namesake.

The University of Oslo is a renowned public research university located in Oslo, Norway and it is the oldest and highest-ranked university in Norway.

Scholarship Benefits:

The Gustafsson & Skrondal Visiting Scholarship program will provide funding for the travel and housing expenses associated with the scholar’s stay at the Centre for Educational Measurement (CEMO) at the University of Oslo. In addition to this, the scholarship will cover the cost of office space, access to necessary equipment, and the university library, as well as free access to courses provided by CEMO. The scholar will be responsible for obtaining the required visa, but the program will provide assistance with the application process. The program also offers assistance with finding housing and completing any necessary paperwork related to moving to another country.

Requirements Criteria for Scholarship:

To be eligible for the Gustafsson & Skrondal Visiting Scholarship, applicants should hold or be qualified to hold a university position or a similar position. However, applications from other areas, such as intergovernmental and non-profit organizations, will also be considered. The scholarship is generally intended for applicants who hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. The selection process will be based on the applicant’s match with the research specializations at the Centre for Educational Measurement (CEMO) at the University of Oslo, their research quality, and their plans for their stay at CEMO. Visiting scholars are expected to be in residence during their scholarship term, which should last around six months (minimum of three and maximum of nine months). Scholars are expected to give presentations during their term on their research and to showcase the results of their stay at CEMO.

  • A two-page personal statement that includes
    • a description of the project that you intend to work on during your stay
    • the expected outcome of your scholarship stay at CEMO
    • the name of the CEMO team member(s) with whom you plan to work with and how your proposal connects to their expertise. Please contact the CEMO team member(s) prior to sending in your application and inquire about possibilities to collaborate. Preference will be given to applicants with shared interests with more than one CEMO team member
    • the expected contribution to CEMO
    • proposed start and end dates
  • Names and contact information for two professional references, one of whom can possibly be a CEMO team member
