Ethnic Koreans with foreign citizenship must provide documents proving the renunciation of Korean citizenship for both themselves and their parents, as well as documents proving the acquirement of nationality for both themselves and their parents, by the application deadline.

All documents must be in English or Korean, and they should include a GKS Application Form, Personal Statement, Study Plan, GKS Applicant Agreement, Personal Medical Assessment, Apostilled or Korean Embassy Verified Bachelor’s Diploma or Graduation Certificate, Apostille or Korean Embassy Verified Bachelor’s Transcript, two Original Letters of Recommendation, Proof of Language Proficiency, a copy of Applicant’s Passport, copies of both Parents’ Passports, Proof of Family Relationship, Agreement for Collection and Use of Personal Data, Research Proposal, and Writing Sample such as Master’s Thesis, Graduate Term Paper, or Published Papers with a minimum of 40 pages printed on one side of the paper only.
English is the language of instruction at the University; therefore, applicants will need to be proficient in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English. Applicants will need to take the TOEFL iBT, IELTS, or TOEIC English Proficiency Tests if the GSIS application deadline falls within two years of the date of examination. TOEFL scores can be sent electronically to C455 (Yonsei University – Graduate School of International Studies). In the case of the IELTS exam, applicants only need to submit a copy in their application package. Additionally, non-native Korean speakers applying for the Global Citizenship and Human Development major must achieve a TOPIK Level 4 or above, and non-native Chinese speakers applying for the Global Citizenship and Cooperation major must achieve an HSK Level 5 or above.
